Meet the actress: Tamara Podemski

The debut film of Indian filmmaker Sterlin Harjo, "Four Sheets to the Wind" about an aboriginal family in small-town Oklahoma, starts with a young man dragging a dead body into a lake, then lighting a cigarette. What next? Narrated quietly, spiced with black humour, the film takes a close look at Indian youth.

The Sundance Film Festival jury honoured Tamara Podemski for her "fully realized physical and emotional turn" as Miri, a woman whose carefree lifestyle brings her to the brink of tragedy, with the Special Jury Prize for Acting. Rolling Stone magazine declared: "Oscar Maybes...And don't worry if you've never heard of Tamara Podemski - see her in FOUR SHEETS TO THE WIND as a Native American who has moved way off the reservation, and you'll remember her name and how to spell it. She's the knockout discovery of Sundance '07."

Dr. Kerstin Knopf (Institute for English and American Studies, University of Greifswald) will introduce the artist who will be available for a discussion with the audience after the screening of the film.

Tamara Podemski, a Toronto-born actress, singer-songwriter, and dancer has won wide recognition as an outstanding artist throughout North America. She is the honorary guest of the Maple Movies IV Film Festival in Hamburg, generously supported by the Embassy of Canada.
